LETHBRIDGE - Changes are coming to the way local mail is sorted in
Lethbridge.
Starting on April 15th, all mail being sent within Lethbridge
will be taken to Calgary for processing and then sent back to Lethbridge for
delivery. About 77 mailboxes in the city will be de-twinned, so instead of
depositing your mail into one of two separate boxes for local-to-local (in city delivery) or outgoing (for other destinations), all
mail will be placed in one box.
Spokesperson Anick Losier says, "Mail is
on the decline and has been for about five or six years and, in fact, we're seeing
about two million less letters a day compared to last year, so we need to create
efficiencies within our network so we don't become a burden on taxpayers." Losier adds local to local mail will still be delivered within two business
days.
There will be no job losses as a result of this, as employees will be reassigned
to other duties.
