Project Connect Event Supports 5-Year Plan To End Homelessness

Lethbridge: An event contributing to a larger movement to end homelessness will take place, Saturday, April 6th.

Project connect hosted by the City of Lethbridge and Social Housing in Action is from 10 AM until 2:30 PM in the Fritz Sick Memorial Gym (420-11th Street South). In a trade fair setting, residents struggling to meet basic needs will receive services such as government information, health services, employment, counseling, youth services, legal advice, housing outreach and tax advice.

Members from the City of Lethbridge, SHIA and about 200 community volunteers will take part in the free event. They expect to serve over 300 people at Project Connect. Covenant Health will provide 400 bagged lunches for individuals to take with them. The Lions Club has also made a donation that will cover the cost to provide a hot meal and lunch for all of those in attendance.

This is the 9th bi-annual Project Connect. Diane Randell with the City says the event is part of a 5-year plan to end homelessness in Lethbridge. She says the plan is right on track as they are seeing less individuals using shelter services and on the street.

Community members can contribute to the event by making a donation.

"We could use things like socks, towels, toiletries. Things that we just take for granted. That we have in our home all of the time, but a lot of folks don't. If they are just getting into their home for the first time or the first time that they've got a house or just the day to day expenses." said Randell.

Donations can be made to the Salvation Army (1811-2nd Avenue South) by Wednesday, April 3rd.
