Unexploded Military Bomb Found Near Barons

 
 

PICTURE BUTTE:  RCMP got an unusual call about an unusual find near Barons on Wednesday afternoon.


The caller was out checking fences on his acreage in the County of Lethbridge, and he literally stumbled across a bomb partially buried in the ground and surrounded by grass.

Officers went out to look and confirmed the find. The RCMP Explosives Disposal Unit were contacted and then Canadian Forces.


Military bomb personnel from Suffield Military Base near Medicine Hat examined the device and confirmed it was a Live 11.5 pound Practice bomb from the 1940's, primarily used to drop from aircraft.


Military personnel transported the bomb to Suffield Military Base where it will be safely detonated.

RCMP are reminding the public that if you find a device that is suspicious in nature, or a military ordinance -- Do not touch it, move to a safe distance and call police.
