Youth Charged in Taber After a Pair of Handgun Incidents
LETHBRIDGE: A 16-year old Taber boy has been charged with robbery, extortion and possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace.
Around 5 o'clock Sunday afternoon police received a complaint about a robbery at the Aquafun Centre in Taber. Three youths reported that they noticed a 16-year old male acting suspiciously near their lockers in a change room and discovered that items had been stolen. When they confronted him, the male showed them the grip of a pistol in the waist of his pants and took off.
Outside the same youth once again showed the weapon and forced a man to sit next to him on a park bench near the cenotaph. A woman who was with the man was allowed to leave, at which point she called 911.
Taber Police found the suspect with a handgun still sitting with the man on the bench and took the youth into custody. The weapon turned out to be a semi-automatic airsoft pistol.
