LETHBRIDGE: A big day for hockey in our city as the Lethbridge Hurricanes and Lethbridge Minor Hockey Association revealed a new partnership along with a new logo.
All minor hockey teams in Lethbridge will now carry the nickname and logo of the Hurricanes.
LMHA General Manager Keith Hitchcock explains why they brought the idea forward and what it will mean for young local hockey players, "Hurricanes are the big presence in the city, we wanted to build that concept of idol, you know where they're here watching their heroes and they want to be a Hurricane, and that's what we wanted to establish in the community."
Hitchcock added that it also solves a bit of an identity issue for the association, and follows other successful partnerships that are similar in places like Ontario, Red Deer and with both the Calgary Flames and Edmonton Oilers.
The partnership is also generating a great deal of excitement for the Hurricanes, with Terry Huisman, General Manager of Business Operations, saying that it will help to develop hometown pride and a greater identity and hopefully even more great Lethbridge hockey players.
