Flooding Update For Lethbridge Area

LETHBRIDGE - UPDATE 9:45PM - The latest information from Alberta Environment indicates the flood surge is moving slower than projected and will not reach Lethbridge until Friday afternoon.

Evacuated Paradise Canyon residents are being allowed to return for the night but will remain on standby for evacuation if required. However, the evacuation order for County residents in the Oldman River Valley will remain in effect through the night. Bridge Drive Campground will also remain closed.

When the peak does hit on Friday afternoon, it's still anticipated to be similar to levels experienced in 2005 where there was extensive river valley flooding.

Berms have been built around the Water and Wastewater Treatment Plant and those facilities should be protected.

City officials continue to urge residents to stay out of the river valley as the volumes of water will be very significant.
