LETHBRIDGE - After receiving emergency funding from City Council in 2012 due to a large
financial deficit, Meals on Wheels is well positioned to operate with a balanced
budget this year and project to have a surplus in 2014.
received $30,000 in emergency funding and an additional $15,000 for a consultant
to provide an operational and strategic review.
In the past year, they upgraded their meal delivery system which has greatly
reduced the number of labour hours required to get out the meals. They also
changed the fee structure for clients so it's now based on their income and
overall more clients are paying a higher meal price than they were a year
