Tents Banned at Crandell Moutain Campground Because of Heavy Bear Activity
WATERTON: The Crandell Mountain Campground in Waterton Lakes National Park has been closed to tents, because of a high number of bears in the area.
Incidents of bears investigating tents for food recently prompted the ban, especially when efforts by park staff to scare them away failed to reduce their numbers.
Only hard-sided campers and trailers will be allowed, with tenters being moved to the townsite campground.
Parks officials are reminding campers to not leave any food or other wildlife attractants out around their campsite, and stressing that you never approach or follow a bear. You should also never leave small children or pets unsupervised.
