LETHBRIDGE: Locally based Green Prairie International is celebrating their 25th anniversary this weekend.
The company, with a major facility located on Highway 3 between Lethbridge and Coaldale, has been shipping forage products overseas since 1988.
Green Prairie Vice President of Marketing Peter Ball goes over how the business has grown since then, "Japan was the first customer we had and over the years we have evolved the timothy market and now we're also into the other forages such as alfalfa, and our markets have gone from Japan, China, Taiwan, Korea and to include the Middle East as well now."
Ball also commented on the impact the business has on the local economy, "One of the things that people probably don't know, is that Green Prairie is a private company. We buy all our own forages here right in Alberta, so all the money is used here, it's sent overseas, then when we get the return all the money comes back into the community. It's a real win-win for Lethbridge, Alberta and for Canada."
To celebrate the special occasion Green Prairie is holding a party at their facility on Saturday, with special guests from the provincial and federal, as well as representatives from some of the overseas companies that they work with.
