Llyod Robertson Keynote Speaker At Grey Matters Conference

LETHBRIDGE - A Lethbridge conference that opened with a speech by Health Minister Fred Horne on Thursday, saw another big name on Friday.

Long time CTV news broadcaster Llyod Robertson was the Keynote Speaker at the Seniors Services Conference - Grey Matters.

Robertson, a senior himself, sees a big challenge for seniors organizations, is finding things to do that are meaningful. He says "because we're living longer, we have to be more active because we know that being more active is what keeps us going both on a psychological and physical level, because you can't just pull down the blinds, turn on the TV, and retire, that's not the way to go about it. You've got to know that you have to lead meaningful lives moving forward."

Robertson also touched on the current state of the Senate, as two of his former colleagues, Pamela Wallin and Mike Duffy, have found themselves caught up in an expense scandal . Robertson says "the important thing to me now is that we use this opportunity of so much concentrated attention on the Senate to move forward and really talk about what we want our Canadian Senate to be, do we want it elected or do we want to abolish it."

Robertson says he doesn't know what happened to Wallin and Duffy, if they got a sense of entitlement or what it was, but he adds they're good people and some of the personal comments about them have been ugly, bitter and nasty.
