City Hall To Turn Purple For World Mental Health Day

LETHBRIDGE - Purple light will be shining on City Hall on Thursday night in support of World Mental Health Day. It's designed to raise awareness about anti-bullying and the prevention of suicide.

The Light Up the World Purple campaign was started by the mother of Amanda Todd. The girl took her own life a year ago at the age of 15 after being a victim of online bullying.

Manager of Community and Social Development Diane Randell says bullying extends beyond the classroom and "we want to be able to also say that bullying or power over other people is unacceptable in any situation whether it be everything from the workplace, it could be in the community, we see it when people are experiencing discrimination, or family violence, abuse."

This support is being shown by communities across North America including Calgary, Moose Jaw, Winnipeg and Toronto.
