Nursing Students Using Mobile App For Research Project

LETHBRIDGE - Mobile apps are being used by nursing students at Chinook Regional Hospital as part of a 15 month research project.

They're trying to determine if having medical information at the fingertips improves their clinical decision making at patients bedside.

The project started in May and about 30 fourth-year nursing students from the University of Lethbridge have the app installed on their mobile phones that contains all kinds of medical and nursing information.

Typically, those that don't have the app have to leave the bedside and look up information in a medical textbook or speak with the hospital pharmacist.

Preliminary findings suggest the app is making a difference, but no conclusions can be drawn until the study wraps up in July.
