LETHBRIDGE: Picture Butte residents still need to boil their water before consumption, following a water main break that impacted the entire town Wednesday.
It happened when a valve failed on a water line and they were unable to isolate it.
Picture Butte Chief Administrative Officer Mike Derricott explains why the boil water advisory needs to stay in place, "We certainly feel that the risk level is low, but water contamination is certainly possible. Really the biggest danger is bacterial and it can obviously make people very sick, kind of similar to food poisoning."
The water main break has since been repaired, however Derricott pointed out what still needs to be done, "We have to go through a flushing process of some of the lines and then do some tests. Once we receive the results of those tests, hopefully everything will come back positively, and we can remove the boil water order."
Derricott added that they're hoping to have results back by Saturday morning, and that they'll be able to lift the boil water advisory later that day.
