Have you heard of the latest social media awareness-raising campaign yet? It's the #IceBucketChallenge & it's pretty awesome, all in support of ALS (aka Lou Gehrig's Disease)
Basically you dump a bucket of ice water on your head in one way or another. points for creativity. Record it, post it to whatever social media you like & challenge someone else to do the same. All while collecting donations & just generally spreading the message.
Justin Timberlake, Martha Stewart have done it - Obama was even nominated. He didn't actually do it - but he still donated.
The NHL has now jumped on board - and Paul Bissonnette wins. Hands down. In his vid - he gets a friend to dump a huge bucket of ice water on him while standing on a mountaintop in his undies. Like a boss. It's pretty hot actually.
What's really awesome is one stat I read saying "they have around 5.6 million in donations compared to 1.2 mill last year at the same time" so you could say the campaigns been quite successful so far. --Corlee
Update: Here's a more official money stat: "The ALS Association's national president, Barbara Newhouse, said donations to the national office surged during the 10-day period that ended Thursday, to about $160,000, from $14,480 during the same period a year ago. That's not counting donations to chapter offices around the country, Newhouse said."
