Man Charged In $75,000 Jewelry Theft

Lethbridge:   An internal theft from a local jewelry store has lead to a city man being charged with  theft over $5000.

The Regional Police Priority Crimes Unit determined $75-thousand worth of jewelry, including rings, necklaces, earrings and bracelets, as well as loose diamonds, were taken from the Charm Diamond Centre, in the 500-block of first avenue south.

The theft occurred between November 2010 and this month, allegedly by an employee.

Investigators discovered the accused had sold a majority of the items to a downtown pawn shop. Some of the stolen jewelry was recovered, when 22-year old Juan Jose Calero-Perez was arrested at his home on Thursday.

Calero-Perez was charged with theft over $5000 and released on bail.  He will be in court January 20th.  Since the investigation continues, more charges are pending.
