Lethbridge: Aninternal theft from a local jewelry store has lead to a city man being charged with theft over $5000.
The Regional Police Priority Crimes Unit determined $75-thousand worth of jewelry, including rings, necklaces, earrings and bracelets, as well as loose diamonds, were taken from the Charm Diamond Centre, in the 500-block of first avenue south.
The theft occurred between November 2010 and this month, allegedly by an employee.
Investigators discovered the accused had sold a majority of the items to a downtown pawn shop. Some of the stolen jewelry was recovered, when 22-year old Juan Jose Calero-Perez was arrested at his home on Thursday.
Calero-Perez was charged with theft over $5000 and released on bail. He will be in court January 20th. Since the investigation continues, more charges are pending.
