Upgrade to Local MRI Means No Increase in Service for Lethbridge
LETHBRIDGE: Alberta Health Services has announced that 9,000 additional MRI's will be done by March 31st across the province.
Lethbridge however won't be seeing any increase at all, as our MRI is being replaced with a new state-of-the-art model.
Mauro Chies Vice-President of Diagnostic Imaging for Alberta Health Services explained that MRI only last a certain period of time and then need to be replaced. He added that the good news is that the model we will be getting is a big upgrade over what we have now.
Replacement of the new unit is expected to start within the next couple weeks, and take roughly 12 weeks to complete.
Chies also commented that a mobile MRI unit will sent to Lethbridge during the replacement period to cover priority cases.
