LETHBRIDGE: An unapproved mobile tattoo operation in our city has been closed and clients need to be tested.
If you got a tattoo from the operation run by Desiree Starzyk, you could be at risk for Hepatitis B and C, as well as HIV. You need to call the community Health Centre at 403-388-6666 and arrange for testing.
Local Health Officer, Dr. Vivian Suttorp explains some of the dangers involved with visiting unlicensed parlours.
"Is there proper disinfecting being done? Is there proper record keeping? Is there proper sterilization of equipment or are people wearing gloves? These are the questions you need to ask."
To confirm that a tattoo, piercing, or related facility is inspected and approved, call AHS Environmental Health in Lethbridge at 403-388-6690.
This is the fourth closure of a tattoo facility in southwest Alberta since last April. Local public health officials learned about the latest mobile tattoo operation through a complaint from the public.
