Residential Garage Explosion Leads To Charges

Lethbridge:  A 38-year old city man faces charges in relation to a garage explosion on October 28th, 2010.

About 10-pm that day, the Fire crews were called to a residential garage in the 3300-block of 5-A Avenue south.   They found the garage door blown off, the structure moved a foot off its foundation and fire damage.

Fire personnel recognized specific evidence and called in Regional Police who seized drug paraphernalia.  An investigation determined the explosion resulted during an attempt to produce cannabis resin.

A man injured in the explosion was air-lifted to Calgary by STARS  for treatment of second and third degree burns to his hands and arms.

Sandy Roger Smith has been charged with production of a controlled substance, arson by negligence, arson to own property and mischief with actual danger to life.   He is scheduled to be in court February 17th.
