Structural Engineer to Examine Chinese National League Building
LETHBRIDGE: A structural engineer has been cleared to enter the Chinese National League building on 2nd Avenue South.
Friday during the lunch hour part of the front facade fell to the sidewalk and street below, which was fortunately deserted at the time.
Manager of Building Inspection Services for the City Kerry Crump noted that they finished a preliminary external review of the building Friday, but stayed outside as they aren't sure for the moment just how stable the structure is.
He explained that the building's owner will now bring in a structural engineer to do a full inspection, which will help determine whether the building can be repaired or if it should be torn down.
Following the report the city will sit down with the buildings owner and the historical society to decide what they should do next.
