New Network Aims to Nab More Alberta Criminals

LETHBRIDGE: Regional police are playing a pivotal part in the roll out of a provincewide police network - that should catch more crooks.

The system will link police data through one general network, so officers can share information about criminals and suspects between cities in real time.

Inspector Colin Catonio explains how the technology can help police nab more suspects.

"Criminals travel quite readily between locations - where it's Calgary, Edmonton, Lethbridge, Medecin, Camrose," says Catonio. "So having that information at an officers' fingertips is a huge advancement."

The system is slated for completion in 2013 - with pilot projects in the works for Calgary soon.
