LETHBRIDGE: An investigation is now underway into a southside shooting Monday night.
Someone phoned police after they heard gunshots in the 2700 block of 24 Avenue South at about 6:20. Officers arrived at the scene to find a photo radar box set up to monitor eastbound traffic had been shot several times.
A Dodge Dakota truck headed eastbound was also struck, injuring a 12-year-old boy who was riding in the vehicle. He suffered non-life-threatening injuries to the side of his head, however police noted that the bullet did not hit him.
One investigator did comment that if the bullet had hit the truck 5 to 6 inches higher, things could have been much worse for the child.
The person operating the photo radar unit was not injured.
Damages to the radar box is estimated at $100,000 as it will likely need to be replaced, while the truck damage is less than $5,000.
