LETHBRIDGE: One of Alberta's loudest health critics sounded the alarm in the city Saturday, at a meeting hosted by the Friends of Medicare.
Edmonton-Meadowlark MLA Raj Sherman is a former ER doctor, one of the first to publically expose major cracks in the province's health care system. Sherman was ousted from the Tory caucus for his criticism. Now sitting as an independent, he's spreading his message across Alberta in a provincewide speaking tour.
"I think we need to take the politics completely out of this - NDP, Liberal, Wildrose, Conservative - let's stop this," says Sherman. "This is a non-political issue, it's a societal issue and we're all in it together."
There was some politicking going on though at his next speaking appointment in Medecine Hat later that evening, when Sherman announced he will be seeking a leadership position - though he didn't specify which party.
