Lethbridge Officer in Calgary Hospital After Assault

LETHBRIDGE:  Two men are in custody after a regional police constable was assaulted and sent to a Calgary hospital.

Early Wednesday morning, the constable saw two men on South Parkside Drive. One of the men tried to run away, but came back and attacked the officer.

The officer suffered serious head injuries, including bleeding on the brain, a broken nose and cheek bone. He was transported from Chinook Regional hospital to Calgary for further treatment.

A police dog caught the first man involved in the incident, while patrol officers took in the second man. Police say the investigation is ongoing and charges are still pending.
