LETHBRIDGE: Administrators for a local women's group say it was the Southern Alberta community who kept their doors open after their federal funding was cut last year, and they've organized an event to say thank you.
From 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday afternoon at the Southern Alberta Art Gallery, Womanspace Lethbridge will host a free family day - complete with face-painting, treats, and some old-fashioned good company.
"It's just a great way to come out and enjoy your community," says program coordinator Tina Shingoose Fancy. "You'll meet lots of other community members as often you only run into some of these people a couple of times a year."
Shingoose Fancy says her group can't thank the community enough for the more than $20,000 raised in their name over the past year, after the Status of Women branch of the federal government axed the centre's source funding.
"Our community came out in record numbers to support us, and it's because of their support that we were able to get through that financial crisis," she says.
The event coincides with the group's annual tribute to International Women's Day on Tuesday, March 8.
