Housing Starts Down Across The Province In February
Lethbridge: It turns out Lethbridge Home Builders Association President Gerrit Bezooyen
is good with predictions. While January housing starts in Lethbridge more
than doubled over the same month in 2010, Bezooyen said those numbers probably
couldn't be sustained. He was right.
The number of housing starts for Lethbridge last month was 64 compared to
74 in February 2010. That equates to a 13.5 per cent decline. However, the
high number of starts in January, means the year-to-date housing starts, which includes both
single detached and multi-family units, are still up by 35.6 per cent.
Housing starts across our province's seven largest centres last month were down
about 18-per cent compared to February of last year. More snow and colder
temperatures than normal in February were a contributing factor locally.
