LETHBRIDGE: 5th on 5th Youth Services is losing roughly $275,000 in funding from the province, which accounts for 37-per cent of their annual budget.
Executive Director Gail McKenzie says the provincial government decised to cut the "Youth Connections" program across Alberta, because young people could also use adult services.
McKenzie explained that they completely disagree, saying that youth need extra help, as a majority have no work experience and may have other challenges that would not be addressed in the adult system.
She noted that without the funding support they can stay open, however they would have to cut one-on-one services for local youth. She added that local businesses would also start to feel the effects, as they would have a more difficult time finding young people in the work force who are ready to step in and help because of the training and help they get at 5th on 5th.
They are asking for donations from the community, and McKenzie says they could also use volunteers.
