Lethbridge: A group of U of L students are sleeping OUT to bring funding UP for a local
The fourth annual "Five days for the Homeless" fundraiser will see the students sleep
outside the student union building, with no food or drinks, except what is
donated to them. They have a pillow and a sleeping bag but showers, and access
to bathrooms only when school buildings are open.
They have also given up
their cell phones, and networking media like facebook. However, they must
attend classes and take care of any teaching positions.
This year, a member of the U-of-L faculty will join them. Cheryl Meheden
from the department of Management will stay over-night with the group on
Wednesday, March 16th.
Money raised from the event will go to Woods
Homes, which provides emergency shelter for youth.
Donations can be accepted in person at their outdoor home, and at tables set up
in the University Hall Atrium and other locations on campus.
