Local Impaired Case Could Have National Impact

LETHBRIDGE: An impaired driving and dangerous driving case against a 34-year old Lethbridge man, could end up having an impact on the entire country.

Just after 6-am on December 11th, Regional Police responded to a single vehicle collision on Highway-3 at the exit for Westside Drive.

Once on scene police officers noted that the driver displayed signs of impairment and he was charged.

It's alleged that Adam Mussa Abdullahi was impaired by a substance known as Qat. It's a leaf grown in parts of Africa, which does not yet have legal status in Canada.

Duty Council who was assisting Abdullahi noted that the incident could become a test case for the substance in Canada.

Abdullahi will be back in court May 13th.
