Fine Handed Down in Theft Case

LETHBRIDGE: 38-year old Sajid Mahmood received a fine of $1,000 Friday, after pleading guilty to a theft charge.

Just after 2-AM March 24th, an 87-year old woman was taking money from an ATM at the casino, when Mahmood walked up, grabbed $120 and then just walked away.

He was arrested when he came back to the casino that same day. It was determined that Mahmood had been highly intoxicated at the time he took the money.

Originally Mahmood had been charged with robbery, as it had been believed that there was a pyschical confrontation between the two and he had shoved her. However the Crown explaiend that it was not the case, and reduced the charge to theft under $5,000.

Mahmood has until August 31st, 2011 to pay the fine.
