Lethbridge: A 24-year old Calgary man wanted for a shooting in our city last month,
turned himself in to Burnaby RCMP Wednesday.
Michael Kebede Abate was wanted for a shooting in Lethbridge on April 25th.
Early that morning, a 25-year-old city man was found in front of an apartment
complex in the 1400-block of Ashgrove Road South, suffering from a gunshot
wound. He was treated for non life-threatening injuries, in a targeted drug
Abate faces a total of 15-charges -- Assault with a weapon (two counts);
Possession of a weapon dangerous to the public (two counts); Uttering threats to
cause death or bodily harm (two counts); Aggravated assault; Pointing a firearm;
Using a firearm in the commission of an offence; Careless use of a firearm;
Robbery; Unauthorized possession of a firearm; Possession of a firearm obtained
by the commission of an offence; Housebreaking and committing robbery and
Some of the charges are in connection with separate incidents of home
invasion and robbery/extortion, which also occurred in April. The incidents came
to light when Regional Police were investigating the shooting.
Abate is in custody in Burnaby awaiting transport back to Lethbridge.
