Southern Alberta Regional Plan -- Have Your Say

Lethbridge:   You are being encouraged to give input on recommendations from an advisory Council for the southern Alberta regional plan, under the Land-use Framework.

The South Saskatchewan Regional Advisory Council recommended the regional plan focus on water supply, conservation and economic development.  However, Sustainable Resource Development Minister Mel Knight wants your feedback on that recommendation.  He notes, " This is a busy landscape -- we're attracting 60,000 new people a year".

The people who sat on the advisory council know southern Alberta and the challenges in the region.  Their recommendations underscored the need for long-term, co-ordinated planning to balance growth, jobs and conservation.

The minister says, "The opportunities for you to get out your ideas about how the area should be planned and developed is also extremely important, as we will use the input from Albertans to develop the draft regional plan".

Under Alberta's Land-Use Framework, the South Saskatchewan Regional Plan was identified as a priority and is the second plan under development in the province.

You can take a look at the Regional Advisory Council recommendation and give your input through an on-line workbook, by going to www.landuse.alberta.ca.  The deadline to submit your feedback is December 19th.
