LETHBRIDGE: A brand new MRI is up and running at the Chinook Regional Hospital.
Crews started installing the $2-million unit back in February, forcing local patients needing an MRI to use a mobile unit set up outside the hospital.
The new MRI will give doctors a clearer image of what they're dealing with, and is also larger. MRI Supervisor Tracy Petrisor explained that they wanted a larger unit, so it could accomodate bigger patients and those who are claustrophobic.
She added that by making the unti easier for patients to get into, it will shorten wait times because they won't need to take as much time preparing people to go in.
Patients will be able to start using the MRI Monday.
