COALDALE: It's official -- A group of ten young men and women from Coaldale have a Guinness certificate confirming they hold the record for the longest Curling Marathon.
The group, which included brothers Kyle and Kevin Beauchamp, Lucas and Adam Pittman, Kyle Williams, Tyler Nast, Steven Wells, Logan Conway, Taylor McDonald and Brent Nicol) set the record November 11th to the 14th, 2010, at the Coaldale Curling rink. They played on a rotating schedule for 57-hours and 44-seconds. The group received the certificate last Wednesday.
Spokesman Brent Nicol says, "It has been a pretty surreal experience since we have received the certification. When we broke it (the record) the feeling was unreal but now that we are recognized by Guinness, it is hard to put into words." Brent goes on to note, "Records are made to be broken, but the ten of us will forever be in the record books and this accomplishment can never be taken from any of us".
The group wants their sponsor and volunteers to know how grateful they are for all of the support which helped get them through the event. According to Brent, " We could not have done this without them and this record is as much theirs as it is ours."
