Water Woes For Lethbridge -- High Stream And Flood Advisory For South West Alberta

LETHBRIDGE:   As the rain continues, Public Operations officials for the city would like you to be proactive in protecting your property.

Make sure your home's drain pipes are working and that they extend away from your home by at least two metres....and check sump pumps to make sure they arr operating. Also, monitor the catch basin grate on your street and remove debris on  to the boulevard.

If a catch basin is blocked and not easy to clear, you should contact the Public Operations office at 403-320-3850.

Alberta Environment has issued a Flood Watch for the Crowsnest River. The river level has risen rapidly and some flooding has already occurred in the M-D of Pincher Creek.

If you have livestock or moveable items, it is recommended moving what you can to higher ground.  Again -- stay away from river banks.

The south western area High Stream Flow Advisory has been expanded to include the Highwood River, the Elbow River, Threepoint Creek, Sheep River, Fish Creek, Willow Creek, the Oldman River upstream of the Oldman Dam and the Castle River in addition to those previously identified. All the rivers and creeks listed in the advisory are rising except for the Belly River which is currently falling.

No major flooding is expected at this time.
