LETHBRIDGE: The Chicoine family is bringing the Marathon of Health to Lethbridge Friday night.
The family of eight from Quebec is running a relay that goes through Canada and U.S. over an estimated nine months.
They're stopping at city hall Friday night at 7:00 to talk about the importance of helping yourself by staying active and maintaining a balanced diet.
Ed Chicoine noted that the research he's been reading suggests up to 80-per cent of hospital visits are for life-style born illnesses, such as diabetes, heart disease and cancer. He explained that by simply eating healthy and through regular exercise most of those conditions can be improved and even prevented.
The family is also raising money for Kidsport Canada, Right to Play and Get Fit America. Chicoine noted that all three groups focus on the health and fitness of children in North America, and making sure all kids have a chance to get involved in sports and options to help them stay fit.
