LETHBRIDGE: Some good news and bad news for west side residents. Lethbridge is closing Bridge Drive for a year - but the closure should allow crews to do necessary repairs and updates.
The city will be adding trunk water mains, storm sewers and sanitary sewers along the roadway, which should help sustain future development on the west side. They'll also address flooding issues that commonly plague the area. That's good news to Ald. Joe Mauro, a westsider himself, who was planning to solve the flooding problem as part of his council portfolio. "I'm happy that it's going forward," he told council Monday.
The road will be closed as of July 2011 and is expected to be reopened in July or August 2012. In addition to the pipe infrastructure, the city also has plans to build additional catch basins and a pathway adjacent to the road for cyclists and pedestrians.
