FERNIE:   A portion of Highway-3 east of Fernie was closed Saturday morning after a deadly crash.

East Kootenay Traffic Services say an east-bound vehicle crossed the double solid centre line and collided head-on with a west-bound Greyhound bus.  The collision happened about  4 A-M near Hosmer, on the east side of the Hosmer bridge.

The impact of the collision claimed the life of 34-year old Charissa Desjardins of Cowley, who was the driver of lone occupant of the car. Desjardins is married and has three children.

The male driver of the bus and his seven passengers were taken to hospital in Fernie. The driver and at one passenger sustained serious injuries. Three other passengers were treated in hospital and released.

   RCMP and Greyhound are investigating.
