Lethbridge's New M-P Speaks In Parliament And Comments On Monday's Budget
OTTAWA: As expected Finance Minister Jim Flaherty's budget was pretty much a carbon copy of the one he introduced in March.
New measures include cash for Quebec's tax harmonization and Lethbridge M-P Jim Hilyer says it's a win in principal, that the government is fazing out subsidies for political parties. He commented to Country 95 News, "While I completely support the concept of many political parties being able to associate and have a voice in Parliament, to me it doesn't make any sense that people are forced, through taxation, to financially subsidize politial parties that they don't support."
Hillyer also shared a point of pride for himself, during the first day of normal business in Parliament on Monday. The newly minted Lethbridge M-P was given the opportunity to address the House in question period. He related, "I got a call from the Prime Minister's office, asking me to make a statement acknowledging the commemoration of the 67th Anniversary of D-Day" Hillyer said it was an honour for him to pay respect to the men and women who served in all the wars since Canada's existance and the soldiers who continue to serve us today.
