Woman Sentenced To House Arrest For Stealing From Local Business

LETHBRIDGE:  An 18-month conditional sentence has been handed to a 65-year-old woman who stole over 53-thousand dollars while working at the London Road Market.

Lola Ann Leavitt will spend the first year of the order on house arrest, followed by an overnight curfew .

The theft occurred between September of 2006 and June of 2007 while she was a cashier at the business.

The conditional sentence was imposed instead of incarceration because Leavitt suffers from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

A doctor testified at the sentencing that her chance of surviving the next four years is 18 percent.
