Time To Check For Dutch Elm Disease

LETHBRIDGE:  Its Alberta Dutch Elm Disease Awareness Week.

The City is asking you to check your elm trees to see if the leaves are wilting, curling up, and turning brown. If they are you should report them to the City of Lethbridge Dutch Elm Disease hotline at 403-320-3075 or the provincial Dutch Elm Disease hotline at 1-877-837-ELMS.

The City would like to remind people not to bring firewood home when travelling out of province.

Transport of firewood brings with it the potential for pest problems and elm firewood is a particular threat because of Dutch Elm Disease.

There is also a pruning ban on elm trees until October 1st.

For more information on Dutch Elm Disease, visit www.stopded.org.
