Lethbridge Still A Bee Hive Of Building Activity Compared To Other Provincial Cities
LETHBRIDGE: This city continues to lead the five-major provincial cities for housing
starts, even after a drop in starts last month.
In July, there were a combined 40 single-detached and multiple family housing
starts, which is a drop almost 25.9% from July of 2010. However, total
housing starts in the first seven-months of this year is 472, when there
were 409 in the first seven months of last year. That equates to a 15.4%
increase over last year.
The Lethbridge situation is more than favorable when compared to numbers in
other cities. While Red Deer saw a 90% jump in housing starts last month, that
city's numbers so far this year are still down 22.8%. Elsewhere for the first
seven months, Edmonton slipped 19.6%, Calgary is down 27.6% and Medicine Hat
starts dropped a whopping 49.7%
