Commercial Vehicle Checks Set Up On Local Highways
LETHBRIDGE - R-C-M-P and Regional police are getting tough on commercial vehicles this week.
They've set up safety check stops on local highways to look for things like equipment violations, unsafe loads, dangerous goods violations, criminal offences and other provincial and by law infractions.
Once the inspection is complete, commercial vehicles in compliance are released, while those that are not are required to be repaired on site or end up being towed.
On the first day of checks, officers inspected 123 vehicles, took 33 of them off the road and issued 44 tickets.
Constable Shane Pahara says drivers need to ensure they are complying with safety requirements at all times since you never know when a safety check might appear.
