Road Closed After Semi Rollover

LETHBRIDGE: No injuries, but a painful expense after a semi rolled over on the north side Tuesday morning. Police closed the 43rd Street and 26 Avenue North intersection at about 10:30 a.m. as crews worked to clear the street.

Lethbridge Regional Police Service told Country 95 News at the scene that equipment failure caused the crash. The sliding locks weren't properly secured to the trailer. A 57-year-old driver was just starting his trip carrying a 65,000 kilogram heat exchanger from Lethbridge to Edmonton when the pins gave out, the load shifted and the whole vehicle fell on its side.

Estimated damage is a quarter million dollars, while estimated damage to the road is $50,000. Police have issued a $230 fine to Premay Equipment for "failure to maintain equipment." The road is expected to be closed as late as 5 p.m.
