Inheritance Scam Surfaces In Lethbridge area

LETHBRIDGE:   Regional Police warn about another scam.  This time, it's a phony inheritance scheme.

In the past two weeks, at least three area businesses received faxes from south Africa, in which the writer claims to be a bank officer trying to locate the rightful owner of an inheritance.  The fax asks for personal information in order to name a next-of-kin, so that millions of dollars belonging to a deceased Canadian can be liquidated and a portion sent out.

Similar letters have been faxed to businesses and organizations around Canada and the U-S. So far, there are no local victims but police remind you to be wary of unsolicited communications.
