LETHBRIDGE: Local men are aiming to help women in the community by dressing like them. The Lethbridge YWCA will open its first "walk a mile in her shoes" fundraiser this Friday at noon in Galt Gardens. For the event, men collect pledges for the non-profit group to strap on specially-made high heels and walk a few metres.
"It's a fun event. It's a great way to get men involved and to get the community involved in raising funds for the YWCA so we can continue to address family violence in our community," said Lethbridge YWCA CEO Kristine Cassie.
A majority of YWCA's funding - about 85 per cent - comes from government, but organizers still need to raise about $200,000 locally each year to sustain their programs. Calgary has held the same event for the past five years - and raised a total of $870,000.
Men can sign up individually or in teams. To register, phone 403.329.0088 or email email@example.com.
