LETHBRIDGE: One of the city's most familiar political candidates is trying again. Local businessman Bal Boora announced Tuesday he's seeking the provincial Liberal nomination for Lethbridge West. He joked with reporters about his long history of unsuccessful attempts to win elected office at municipal, federal and provincial levels.
"Being unsuccessful really doesn't say that I have not done anything," said Boora. "If I was running in the Olympics, I would have three silver medals. Believe me. But this isn't the Olympics, there's only one prize."
If he wins the Liberal nod, Boora will be up against local social activist Shannon Phillips, who won the NDP nomination for the riding. If not, he says his passion for the community will likely inspire him to try again in future.
"I have lived in Canada for 40 years now, I've lived in Lethbridge 30 years," said Boora. "I've raised my family here, I've worked here and I've done a lot of community work for this community."
