New Tier-1 Canada Research Chair Based Out Of the U-of-L
LETHBRIDGE: Another first for the University of Lethbridge. Dr. Susan McDaniel, a Sociology Professor and Director of the U-of-L's Prentice Institute for Global population and economy has been named a Tier-1 Canada Research Chair. It's the first Tier- CRC in social sciences at the University.
The seven-year, renewable appointment comes with $1.4 million in funding to support the one-of-a-kind institute research. McDaniel and her colleagues look into issues that face people over the course of their lives, such as aging, income inequalities, access to health care. They also look at migration across the world and have the participation of researchers in six-countries, including the U-S, Japan and Africa. Information gathered, is used by governments to help with policy decisions.
Country 95 reporter Dori Modney spoke with Dr. McDaniel on Friday, October 21st, about the importance of the research that's being done and where it will lead.
