No Plans To Remove WiFi from Public And Catholic Schools Despite Health Concerns
LETHBRIDGE - Despite the World Health Organization warning that microwave radiation from WiFi and other wireless devises is now considered a possible carcinogen and placed on the same list as DDT and car exhaust, the Lethbridge Public and Catholic School systems have no plans to stop using WiFi in local schools.
Superintendent Barry Litun says they have not received any documentation from health authorities or Alberta Education that this is something they need to look at. He says when this became an issue of conversation a couple years ago, they were assured that students are not at risk when there is wireless access within schools.
Sandra Dufresne says its not something the Catholic system has on their radar either.
Two schools in Ontario have removed WiFi over health concerns and the Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario is investigating whether WiFi is safe for Ontario classrooms.
