At it's regular meeting on Tuesday, Public School trustees gave the nod to a
2011 audited financial statement and up-dated 2011-2012 budget. The document noted the added funding from Alberta Education in October.and student
enrollment to the end of September was up by 147-students.
There was total revenue of $92.6-million and expenses of $93-million, with
the deficit of just over $400,000 to come from school reserves.
The extra provincial funding allowed the district to add 13.9 full time
equivalent teachers and 10-full time support staff. However, the district
still has about 12 fewer teachers and 15 fewer support staff positions than last
year, despite increased student enrollment.
The Board has placed high hopes on the three-year funding commitment that
was outlined in Premier Alison Redford's Mandate letter to the Education
Minister, after the provincial cabinet was announced in October.
The Board of Trustees also outlined its 5th annual Town Hall meeting which
will be held Monday, February 6th, 2012, to set goals for the next year. The
Board wants to get feedback on "What specific activities can trustees be
involved in to best engage the community in order to receive feedback or
suggestions". An open invitation to the town hall meeting will go out in
