Police Warn Shoppers to Hide Valuables

LETHBRIDGE: Regional police are reminding you to keep your valuables safe and sound when you do your holiday shopping this weekend.

Constable Blaine Stodolka says it takes only 30 seconds to break into a car - and the risk just isn't worth it.

"We want to get those valuables out of the back seat and into the truck or covered up so that the potential thief that's coming along doesn't steal all of those wonderful Christmas presents that you just purchased," said Stodolka.

He added the number of thefts from cars does trend upwards around this time of year as busy shoppers leave purchased items in plain sight in their cars because of convenience as they move from store to store. Police are handing out dashboard placards that say "all valuables removed." You can pick one up at the Lethbridge police station and AMA to remind would-be thieves to leave your vehicle alone.
